Stair trimming

With the staircase in place and secured I could install the last bit of bannister at the top. I had to make the final post, which had been supplied as a simple blank because we had no idea what was going to be done at that point. It only needed a notch and two mortises, but I think they must be the biggest mortices I’ve yet cut at about 3” by 2½”. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking to chop into a $200 chunk of wood. It all worked out ok though.

There is a fair bit of trim to go around the stairwell walls as well, wrapping from the left of the picture to join the breadboard of the hallway wall, past the shelf formed by the joint between the foundation ICFs and the upper SIPs to the back of the sideboard. The shelf will be Fir, the rest painted trim.
